Villa Giulia, also known as Villa di Papa Giulio, was built between 1550 and 1550 for Pope Julius III (r. 1550-55). The architects were Vignola, Giorgio Vasari and Bartolomeo Ammannati.
Since 1889 Villa Giulia has housed the splendid National Etruscan Museum (Museo Nazionale Etrusco). One of the museum's most famous exhibits is the beautiful terracotta Sarcofago degli Sposi(Sarcophagus of the Spouses), which dates back to the 6th century BCE.
