Welcome to Walks in Rome, your guide to the treasures of the Eternal City.
My name is David Lown and I am an art historian from Cambridge, England.
Since 2001, I have lived in Rome, where I run a wide range of private walking tours.
My walking tours are expressly aimed at travellers who want to avoid the over-crowded sights and experience some of the many other charms of this fascinating city. To book a tour, or for more information, please click on the icon below and send me an email.
Each of the walks is designed to last two hours.
1. Secrets of the City
On this tour we step off the beaten track and explore the centro storico, the historical heart of Rome, in search of some of the many hidden gems and curiosities that most people (including many Romans) fail to spot.
2. Trastevere (& the Jewish Ghetto)
Trastevere, a picturesque and lively district, is home to some of Rome's finest churches, with treasures ranging from medieval mosaics and hidden frescoes to masterpieces of Baroque sculpture. This walk offers the option of including a tour of the Jewish Ghetto.
3. Monuments of Ancient Rome
We step beyond the Forum to see some of the many ancient monuments and structures that survive elsewhere in the city, such as the Theatre of Marcellus, the Republican temples of Hercules and Portunus, the oldest bridge in Rome, and the site of the most famous assassination in history!
