Monument to Pope Pius VIII (1853-66) by Pietro Tenerani (Francesco Saverio Castiglioni, Cingoli, b.1761/r.1829-30) The monument to Pope Pius VIII was created by the sculptor Pietro Tenerani (1789-1869) and unveiled in 1866.
The Pope kneels, bareheaded, beneath a statue of Christ Enthroned and is flanked by statues of St Peter and St Paul. To either side of the door, which leads to the Sacristy, are statues of Justice and Prudence.
