The ancient church of San Pancrazio was built by Pope Honorius I (r. 625-38) and remodelled at the beginning of the 17th century. San Pancrazio was erected on the site of the tomb of St Pancras, an early fourth-century martyr.
Nave
The interior comprises a nave, two aisles and a transept.
Nave Ceiling
The carved wooden ceiling in the nave sports a relief of St Pancras in the middle and the coats of arms of Pope Paul V (r. 1605-21) and Cardinal Ludovico di Torres at either end.
Sanctuary
The sanctuary occupies the central part of the transept and the apse. It is raised above the nave and is accessed by five steps. The vault of the apse has a fresco (1959) by Luigi Ciotti, which depicts Christ in majesty with St Pancras with other saints. The baldacchino, which reused old materials, was erected in the same year.
