The Fountain of the Moor (Fontana del Moro), which is located at the south end of the Piazza Navona, was designed by Giacomo della Porta (1532-1602) in 1575. The fountain, however, had to wait almost a century for its centrepiece, which was added in 1653, the work of Giovanni Antonio Mari (c.1630-61) to a design by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680).
In 1874 all of the original statues were moved to the Galleria Borghese and replaced by copies.
