Fountain in Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere
There has been a grand fountain in Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere since at least the 15th century. The fountain we see today was designed by Carlo Fontana for Pope Innocent XII (r. 1691-1700).

The fountain was rebuilt in 1873, when the letters S.P.Q.R. were added to the four shells.
