On September 4th 1667, the Maltese sculptor Melchiorre Cafà died in Rome, as a result of a work-related accident. Although he was only thirty-one years old when he died, Cafà had already established himself in the Rome as a major player in his field. His bas-relief of The Ecstasy of St Catherine of Siena, in the church of Santa Caterina a Magnanapoli, is a good example of his work. Comments are closed.
