Tucked away in a side street in the centre of Rome stands the small 17th century church of Santissimo Sudario all' Argentina, also known as Santissimo Sudario dei Piemontesi (Most Holy Shroud of the Piedmontesi).
Santissimo Sudario dei Piemontesi was once the national church of the Kingdom of Sardinia and is now the regional church for Piedmont and Sardinia.
Interior
The interior comprises a nave of five bays.
High Altar
The altarpiece in the sanctuary is The Deposition by Antonio Gherardi (1638-1702).
God the Father by Antonio Raggi
The striking stucco sculpture of God the Father is the work of Antonio Raggi (1624-86).
Between the entablature and the sculpture is a copy of the Holy Shroud, with angels in attendance.
