Santi Marcellino e Pietro al Laterano is an 18th century parish and titular church of ancient foundation. The church is dedicated to the 4th century Roman martyrs Marcellinus and Peter, who have their catacombs at Santi Marcellino e Pietro ad Duas Lauros.
Coat of Arms of Pope Benedict XIV
The church was rebuilt at the behest of Pope Benedict XIV (r. 1740-58), whose coat of arms crowns the facade.
Interior
The interior has a domed Greek Cross plan.
High Altar
The altarpiece in the sanctuary, which depicts The Martyrdom of St Marcellinus and St Peter (1751), is by Gaetano Lapis (1706-76).
Chapel of St Gregory the Great
The chapel on the right is dedicated to St Gregory the Great. The altarpiece depicts The Mass of St Gregory by the Roman painter Filippo Antonio Evangelisti (1680-1761).
Chapel of the Virgin Mary
The chapel on the left is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The altarpiece is copy of Guido Reni's The Virgin in Glory with Angels, St Joseph and St Teresa.
