The 17th century church of Santa Rita da Cascia alle Vergini is dedicated to St Rita of Cascia.
Interior
St Rita (1381-1457) was canonised by Pope Leo XIII (r. 1878-1903) on May 24th, 1900. Her feast day is celebrated on May 22nd. The church, which was originally called Santa Maria delle Vergini, belongs to the Arciconfraternita di Santa Rita da Cascia and is a centre for devotion to the saint in Rome.
Apse
The richly decorated interior is on the plan of a Greek cross, with a central dome.
The Glory of Heaven
The fresco depicts The Glory of Heaven and has been attributed to the Roman painter Michelangelo Ricciolini (1654-1715).
Apse Vault
The stucco work is by Filippo Carcani. The design of the altar is attributed to the Roman architect Mattia De Rossi (1637-95). The altarpiece, which depicts The Death of St Rita (1911), is flanked by statues of St Joseph and St Augustine, the work of Filippo Carcani.
Chapel of St Augustine
The chapel on the right is dedicated to St Augustine.

The chapel on the left is dedicated to St Mary Magdalene.
