Piazzale di Porta Capena On a small traffic island near the Circus Maximus stands a simple but evocative memorial to those who died in the terrorist attacks that took place in New York and Washington on September 11th, 2001. The memorial, which was unveiled on September 11th 2009, takes the form of a bronze plaque and two ancient granite columns, symbols of the twin towers of the World Trade Centre in New York, which were destroyed in the attack.
