Pope Martin V (r. 1417-31), whose election effectively brought to an end the Western Schism (1378-1417), is interred in the church of San Giovanni in Laterano.
The beautiful bronze tomb slab is the masterpiece of the Tuscan sculptor Simone Ghini (c.1406-91). The inscription describes Pope Martin V as TEMPORVM SVORVM FILICITAS (the joy of his times). Comments are closed.
