On October 13th 1534, Cardinal Alessandro Farnese was elected pope, taking the name Pope Paul III. The frescoes in the Sala dei Fasti Farnesiani (Hall of Farnese Glories), in Palazzo Farnese, were begun by Francesco Salviati (1510-63) and completed after his death by Taddeo Zuccari (1529-66). The frescoes celebrate the achievements of the Farnese family, including the election of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese as Pope Paul III (r. 1534-49). Comments are closed.
