Death Writes the Inscription
An extraordinary image of a winged skeleton writes, or finishes writing, the name and title of Pope Urban VIII (r. 1623-44) in the black book of death.
The skeleton is part of the pope's grand funeray monument, the work of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, which stands in St Peter's Basilica.
