The Fountain of the Tritons (Fontana dei Tritoni, 1715), which stands opposite the church of Santa Maria di Cosmedin, was commissioned by Pope Clement XI (r. 1700-21) and designed by Carlo Francesco Bizzaccheri (1656-1721).
It has to be said that it is one of the least successful of Rome's many fountains.
