March 8th is the Feast Day of St John of God. John of God was born João Duarte Cidade on March 8th 1495. A Portuguese soldier turned health-care worker in Spain, he died exactly 55 years later on March 8th 1550. Cidade was canonised by Pope Alexander VIII (r. 1689-91) on October 16th 1690. St John of God is the patron saint of hospital workers and patients. Comments are closed.
