On October 28th 1958, Cardinal Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli was elected Pope John XXIII. The facade of the 20th century church of Nostra Signora di Lourdes a Tor Marancia (Our Lady of Lourdes at Tor Marancia), sports the coat of arms of Pope John XXIII (r. 1958-63). As Cardinal Angelo Roncalli, he was the Patriarch of Venice from 1953 until 1958, hence the presence of the winged lion on the shield. Comments are closed.
