The charming little 13th century Chiesa dell' Annunziatella is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, under the aspect of the Annunciation. Annunziatella (Little Annunciation) simply refers to the size of the church. The beautiful fresco of the Annunciation, in the apse, dates back to circa 1500; its painter is unknown. In 1640 the church was restored by Cardinal Francesco Barberini. Until the 1930s, La Nunziatella, as the church is often called, stood in open countryside. How different is its setting, today!
