Exactly 100 years ago, on November 29th 1924, the composer Giacomo Puccini died in Brussels. Rome is the setting for one of Puccini's most famous operas, Tosca. The action takes place on a single day, June 14th 1800. The church of Sant' Andrea della Valle, Palazzo Farnese and the Castel Sant' Angelo are, respectively, the locations for the three acts of the opera. Tosca was first performed on January 14th 1900 at Rome's Teatro Costanzi (today's Teatro dell' Opera), in the presence of the composer. Comments are closed.
