A statue of St Joan of Arc, the work of the French sculptor Maxime Real del Sarte (1888-1954), stands in the Giardino di Sant' Alessio.
The sculptor donated the statue to the city in 1935, but it was only placed in the garden in 1954, the year of his death. Joan of Arc (c. 1412-31) was canonised by Pope Benedict XV (r. 1914-23) on May 16th, 1920. Comments are closed.
