On September 4th 1667, the Maltese sculptor Melchiorre Cafà died in Rome, as a result of a work-related accident.
Although he was only thirty-one years old, Cafà had already established himself in the Eternal City as a major player in his field. He was buried in the church of San Biagio della Pagnotta.
