On September 18th 96 CE, the emperor Domitian (r. 81-96) was assassinated by court officials in his palace on the Palatine Hill. He was forty-four years old. Domitian was the son of one emperor, Vespasian (r. 69-79), and the younger brother of another, Titus (r. 79-81). On the same day as Domitian's assassination, the Senate proclaimed Marcus Cocceius Nerva emperor (r 96-98). Comments are closed.
