The beautiful Madonna del Parto (Madonna of Childbirth), 1521, the masterpiece of Jacopo Sansovino (1486-1570), has been restored to its original glory with the help of bacteria!
The bacteria, which was grown in a lab, devoured the many substances, which, over the centuries, had greatly discoloured the marble. The sculpture is to be found in the Roman church of Sant' Agostino. Comments are closed.
