Pope Leo XIV Ends the Jubilee of 2025

This morning, on the Feast of the Epiphany, Pope Leo XIV closed the Holy Door
(Porta Santa) of St Peter's Basilica, thereby marking the end of the Jubilee or Holy Year of 2025. 

Only the pope can open and close the Holy Door of St Peter's Basilica. It was opened by Leo XIV's predecessor on December 24th 2024. However Pope Francis died on April 21st 2025, only the second pope to die during the course of a Jubilee. The other pope was Innocent XII, who died on September 27th, 1700.
