On February 7th 1878, Pope Pius IX died. He had reigned for 31 years and 236 days, the longest reign of any pope.
In addition to being the longest-reigning pope in the history of the papacy, Pius IX was also the first pope to be photographed. Pope Pius IX is buried in the church of San Lorenzo fuori le Mura. Comments are closed.
