On October 22nd 1849, the sculptor Giulio Tadolini was born in Rome. Giulio came from a family of sculptors. Both his father Scipione Tadolini (1822-93) and his grandfather Adamo Tadolini (1788-1868) were successful practitioners of the profession. Giulio Tadolini's most important commission was the creation of the funerary monument to Pope Leo XIII (r. 1878-1903) in the church of San Giovanni in Laterano. Giulio Tadolini died in Rome on April 18th 1918. Comments are closed.
