The Patron Saint of Lost Causes

The 17th century church of Santa Rita da Cascia alle Vergini, is dedicated to St Rita of Cascia, the patron saint of lost causes.
St Rita (1381-1457) was canonised by Pope Leo XIII (r. 1878-1903) on May 24th, 1900. Her feast is celebrated on May 22nd.
