On July 20th 1903, Pope Leo XIII died at the age of 93, which makes him the oldest pope in history.
Leo XIII (r. 1878-1903) is also only one of three popes to have reigned for twenty-five years or more; the other two are his predecessor Pope Pius IX (r. 1846-78), and Pope John Paul II (r. 1978-2005). The church of San Giovanni in Laterano houses the funerary monument to Pope Leo XIII. Comments are closed.
