In the portico of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore stands a grand bronze statue (1692) of King Phillip IV of Spain (r. 1621-40), one of the church's benefactors.
Based on a model by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the bronze statue is the work of the Roman sculptor Girolamo Lucenti (1627-92).
