Vicolo delle Palline On June 28th 1607, the architect, engineer and urban planner Domenico Fontana died in Naples. Domenico Fontana (1543-1607) worked a great deal in Rome and there is a plaque in Vicolo delle Palline, where he lived. In 1586, at the behest of Pope Sixtus V (r. 1585-90), Fontana erected the 320-ton Obelisk in St Peter's Square. He was later awarded the title of Knight of the Golden Spur. Comments are closed.
