On June 20th 1667, Cardinal Giulio Rospigliosi was elected pope, taking the name Clement IX.
Pope Clement IX (r. 1667-69), whose motto was Aliis non sibi Clemens (Clement to others, not to himself), died on December 9th 1669. He is buried in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore. Comments are closed.
