On July 29th 1644, Pope Urban VIII died.
Urban VIII (r. 1623-44) was a member of the Barberini family and a great patron of the arts. His family's coat of arms is made up of three bees and the Barberini bees can be seen buzzing about on buildings throughout Rome.
My name is David Lown and I am an art historian from Cambridge, England. Since 2001 I have lived in Italy, where I run private walking tours of Rome.
