Caius Julius Caesar was born in Rome on July 13th 100 BCE. The day is certain, the year less so. Some scholars have dated his birth to 101 or 102, but the consensus of opinion is 100 BCE. In the Roman calendar the month of July was originally known as Quinctilis (the fifth month). After Caesar's death, on March 15th 44 BCE, the Senate voted that Quinctilis should be renamed Iulius (Luglio in Italian).
