On July 12th (or 13th) 100 BCE, Julius Caesar was born in Rome. If there is some uncertainty as to which day Caesar was born, there is none as to when he died. He was assassinated on March 15th 44 BCE. The month of July was originally known as Quintilis (the 'fifth month'). After Caesar's death the Senate voted that it should be renamed Iulius (Luglio in Italian).
