On February 13th 1773, the Roman sculptor Pietro Bracci (b. 1700) died. Outside the hallowed circles of art history, Bracci is largely unknown, and yet millions of people know at least one of his works, namely the god Oceanus, which forms the centrepiece of the Trevi Fountain. Bracci also carved the two horses and the pair of tritons, which flank Oceanus. Some other works in Rome by Pietro Bracci:
