In the shadow of Palazzo del Quirinale stands the equestrian statue of King Carlo Alberto of Savoy, King of Sardinia (1798-49). In 1861, his son and successor, Vittorio Emanuele, would become the first king of Italy.
The monument (1900) is the work of the Florentine sculptor Raffaele Romanelli (1856-1928).
