December 4th is the feast day of St Barbara, the patron saint of firemen and mathematicians.
The statue of St Barbara on the facade of the church of Santa Barbara dei Librai (St Barbara of the Booksellers) is the work of Ambrogio Parisi. The stucco detail beneath her statue depicts two firing cannons, a reminder that St Barbara is also the patron saint of artillerymen. Comments are closed.
