The Castle of Julius II, in Ostia Antica, was built between 1483 and 1486 by the Florentine architect, Baccio Pontelli, on the orders of the bishop of Ostia, Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere, who later became Pope Julius II (r. 1503-13).
