Piazzale Ugo la Malfa The monument to Giuseppe Mazzini (1805-72), one of the leading activists for the unification of Italy, was unveiled on June 2nd 1949, the centenary year of the start of the short-lived Roman Republic (February 9th 1849-July 2nd 1850). The monument was conceived by the Sicilian sculptor Ettore Ferrari (1845-1929). Following his death, it was completed under the guidance of his son Gian Giacomo Ferrari and the sculptor Ettore Guastalla. Comments are closed.
