A short distance from Palazzo Madama, the seat of the Senate, there is a huge granite basin that forms the centrepiece of a fountain. The ancient basin, which which was once part of the Baths of Nero, was set up as a part of a fountain in 1987 to mark the fortieth anniversary of the Constitution of the Italian Republic, which was enacted on December 22nd, 1947.
